Mr. Cates is an honors graduate of St. Augustine High School in New Orleans,
he was a
National Merit Scholarship semi-finalist and the recipient of a NSFNS
scholarship, which was applied towards furthering his formal education at Loyola
University in New Orleans.
At Loyola, Mr. Cates was selected to participate in the Honors and Privileged
Studies Program and ultimately was named as a University Fellow. He received the
Dean’s Award three consecutive years for maintaining the highest scholastic
average in the College of Arts and Sciences. As a result of academic
achievement, he was selected for membership in Alpha Sigma Nu, the National
Jesuit Honor Society, and Delta Epsilon Sigma.
Ranked first in Loyola University’s College of Arts and Sciences at the time of his
acceptance into Loyola’s School of Law, Mr. Cates received his undergraduate
degree cum laude after completing his freshman year in law school and ultimately
received his Juris Doctor, again with honors, in May of 1976.
